Gas assisted injection molding

In this type of molding, the usual injection of molten plastic is assisted by the introduction of pressurized gas into the mold, normally nitrogen is introduced to carry out this process. The gas produces a bubble that pushes the plastic towards the ends of the mold; thus, as the bubble expands, the different sections are covered. There are several variations of molding that are used in the plastics industry and which differ according to the position in which the gas is injected into the polymer melt.

More specifically, the gas can be injected through the machine nozzle or directly into the mold cavity under constant pressure or volume. Some of these methods are protected by access patents; for this reason, to use it, the corresponding use license agreement must be obtained.

 

Foam injection mold

This technique offers an efficient and economical way to obtain high strength and rigidity in structural parts. In addition to this advantage, structural foam parts have a better thermal insulation system, greater chemical resistance and improved electrical and acoustic characteristics. These pieces have a foam core between two layers, obtaining this core is obtained by dissolving an inert gas in the resin and allowing it to expand by injecting the plastic-gas solution into the mold cavity. Thin-walled injection molded

The main technological innovation here is related to the final results they generate: a very thin-walled section.

The biggest difficulty in this process is deciding what is the thickness level to consider the piece as a “thin wall”. As a general rule, component parts are manufactured in which their thickness can be less than half a millimeter, in this case we would be facing a thin-walled one.

Multi-component injection

Also known as over-injection since in this process a hard or soft polymer is over-injected on top of a base material (substrate), generally a plastic or metallic component.

In short, we can define this technology as the injection of more than one component or material in the same mold and process, allowing the combination of two, three or more materials of different colors, textures and shapes.
